Flood Stop Devices and Flood Alarms
The main reason water heaters get replaced is because they begin to leak. Although most area cities have different drip pan requirements, they all recommend a pan and discharge pipe be installed beneath every water heater. Levy and Son backs this recommendation 100 percent plus recommends that a WAGS (water and gas safety) valve be installed. This device shuts off the water and gas to a water heater in the event it detects water in the drain pan. This valve has proven to prevent extensive water property damage. The WAGS valve can be installed at a reasonable price during your water heater replacement.
A simple way to aid in preventing a flood is to purchase a flood alarm. These devices are available at your local hardware store. Just place the alarm in your water heater drip pan or on the floor beside heater, washing machine etc. and an alarm will sound if wet.
