Foul Odor Detection with Disposals and Smoke Testing

Levy and Son has solved many foul odor mysteries. All cases are not the same. Some cases require investigation while others are apparent. Disposers are a common problem that can occur from food buildup. There are several cures such as fruit peelings, ice cubes and some chemical treatments available at your local hardware store. All are effective.

Other mysteries are foul odors from bathroom areas. A plumber’s inspection using a visual and smell inspection can identify areas such as shower pans, which trap and allow water to stagnate, unused plumbing fixtures with traps that are dry, lavatories with malfunctioning overflow drainage and a toilet where the wax seal has given out to name a few.

Some odors require smoke testing. A plumber and an assistant inject smoke into the sewer system in search of broken drain or vent piping. This is used on residential and commercial projects with good success.
